Why You'll Love It

ON YOUR MARKS.
Get set.... Glow!

The game-changing serum that's clinically proven to reduce the appearance of dark spots and even out skin tone, with instantly brighter results*.

Unlike exfoliating acids, which can leave skin sensitised and more vulnerable to UV damage, our Marine Algae extract targets the root of discolouration deep in the skin. It fades existing dark spots and helps prevent new ones forming.

A quick science lesson: as you age, the fibroblasts that regulate your pigmentation lose their ability to keep melanocytes in check. Hello, age spots. But Marine Algae is rich in phlorotannins, a class of compounds unique to brown seaweed. These reactivate the signalling protein (SDF-1) that tells melanocytes to moderate melanin production, restoring your skin's natural pigmentation control at the source.

Backed by peer-reviewed research and clinically tested across multiple skin tones, it's safe for all complexions. It won't bleach, won't fade your freckles, and won't interfere with tanning. Just balanced, even-toned skin.

A hyperpigmentation solution for even the most hypervigilant skin.

Directions

Apply to slightly damp, cleansed skin morning and night, before your moisturiser or oil. A little goes a long way, so two to three pumps should do it. Layer with SPF during the day to protect your progress.

For the full brightening effect, pair Fade Forward with Light Work Cleansing Oil to start, C-2 Believe Brightening Moisturiser in the morning, and Rosehip BioRegenerate Face Oil plus Bonne Nuit Night Cream at night. You can also work Virtuous Circle Exfoliator into your weekly routine to help shift pigmented surface cells faster.

Safe to use year-round with no increased UV sensitivity. Works beautifully on all skin tones.

Key Ingredients

  • Marine Algae

Sourced from the Pink Granite Coast of Brittany, this brown Algae extract is rich in phlorotannins, which help the skin reactivate the proteins that control skin pigmentation. Meaning the fading of existing dark spots, and a more even skin tone.

  • Hyaluronic Acid

A sugar the body naturally produces, Hyaluronic Acid can hold between 10 and 50 times its weight in water, storing it like a reservoir for the skin – giving a long-lasting, moisturising effect. Our all-natural form comes from maize.

  • Vitamin E

This skin protectant has antioxidant and free radical-removing properties to help protect the skin against the visible signs of ageing, inflammation and sun damage.

  • Stabilised Vitamin C

Our all-natural Vitamin C is sourced from corn and coconut. It’s oil-soluble and stabilised to ensure it’s slow-releasing, delivering radiant results right down to the last drop.

Sarah Brown, Pai Founder

"Our mission was to devise a serum that tackled existing dark spots, and kept new ones from forming. All without acids, which only scratch the surface and can disrupt the barrier. A clever blend of Algae and Vitamin C came up trumps. Together they even out your complexion, and help to keep it that way."

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Fade Forward work on dark spots?

Dark spots form when ageing or UV damage causes fibroblasts to stop producing SDF-1, the protein that keeps melanin production in check. Fade Forward's Marine Algae extract (Himanthalia elongata), rich in phlorotannins unique to brown macroalgae, reactivates SDF-1 expression to restore that control. In peer-reviewed research (Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2023), it boosted SDF-1 by up to 38% and reduced skin pigmentation by up to 26% in human skin models over just 5 days.

What clinical results has Fade Forward been proven to deliver?

In a 20-person clinical study over 9 weeks, Fade Forward was proven to reduce the appearance of dark spots. In an independent consumer trial of 101 women over 8 weeks, 82% said it visibly reduced dark spots, 83% saw more even skin tone, and 87% said skin looked visibly healthier with a radiant glow.

Is Fade Forward safe for darker skin tones?

Yes. Fade Forward restores your skin's own pigmentation control rather than bleaching or suppressing melanin, making it genuinely safe for all skin tones. The Marine Algae extract was tested in double-blind, placebo-controlled trials across Caucasian, Asian, and African skin types, with significant melanin reduction measured in all three groups, including a meaningful decline in hyperpigmented areas on African skin specifically.

What's the story behind the name "Fade Forward"?

Two steps forward. Over-aggressive formulas that only tackle dark spots on the surface can leave skin vulnerable to irritation and further damage. Instead, our high-tech formula is packed with actives that fade and protect in equal measure – to even out skin tone and help you glow forward with confidence.

How do I incorporate Fade Forward into my routine?

Apply to slightly damp skin AM and/or PM, after cleansing and before moisturiser. For a full brightening routine, pair it with Light Work Cleansing Oil, C-2 Believe Brightening Moisturiser in the morning, and Bonne Nuit Night Cream plus Rosehip BioRegenerate Face Oil in the evening.

Is Fade Forward safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

Yes. Fade Forward is pregnancy and breastfeeding safe. It contains no retinoids, hydroquinone, or exfoliating acids. The formula is also 100% natural origin, COSMOS certified, and has been 96-hour patch tested for tolerance, including on volunteers with reactive skin.

Does Fade Forward contain any exfoliating acids?

No. Lactic acid appears in the INCI list, but it's used solely as a pH adjustor, not as an exfoliant. The formula is completely free from AHAs, BHAs, glycolic acid, and hydroquinone, so there's no irritation risk or increased photosensitivity.

Will Fade Forward make my skin sensitive to the sun?

No. Unlike AHA or glycolic acid-based dark spot treatments, Fade Forward contains no exfoliating acids or photosensitising ingredients, so it won't increase your UV sensitivity. That said, UV exposure is a key driver of hyperpigmentation in the first place, so wearing SPF daily will help protect your results.

Will Fade Forward help with post-acne scarring?

It can help with the dark marks left behind after blemishes, known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. The stabilised Vitamin C in the formula inhibits tyrosinase (the enzyme driving excess melanin production) and supports faster cell turnover, so those lingering marks gradually brighten. The Magnolia Bark Extract also helps calm inflammation, which is what triggers the overproduction of melanin in the first place.

Can Fade Forward help with melasma?

It depends on the cause. Hormonally triggered melasma (such as during pregnancy) typically fades once hormone levels settle, and Fade Forward isn't designed to address hormonal signalling. However, if your melasma is linked to sun damage or ageing, Fade Forward can help by restoring the SDF-1 pathway that controls melanin production in UV-affected skin.

Will Fade Forward get rid of my freckles?

No. Freckles are genetic, meaning the proteins that regulate melanin production are already working optimally alongside them. Fade Forward restores pigmentation control where it's been lost due to ageing or sun damage, so it won't alter freckles, which are a completely different mechanism.

Will Fade Forward affect my tan when I go on holiday?

No. Fade Forward works by restoring your skin's natural pigmentation control protein (SDF-1), which regulates melanocyte activity. Tanning is a protective response where SDF-1 is already functioning as intended, so the serum won't interfere with it. It only targets the uncontrolled melanin production that happens when that signalling breaks down due to ageing or UV damage.

What type of Vitamin C is in Fade Forward and why?

Fade Forward uses Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate (ATIP), an oil-soluble form of Vitamin C that penetrates the skin's lipid barrier more effectively than water-soluble L-ascorbic acid. Once absorbed, it converts gradually into active Vitamin C within the skin for sustained activity. It also stays stable in the bottle, so it won't oxidise and lose potency the way L-ascorbic acid does.

Can I use the Vitamin C Booster with Fade Forward?

Yes. Fade Forward's oil-soluble Vitamin C (Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate) works in the deeper lipid layers of the skin, so it complements a water-soluble Vitamin C Booster rather than competing with it. You can layer them together in the same routine.

Can I use the Retinoid Booster with Fade Forward?

Yes. We'd suggest using Fade Forward in the morning and your Retinoid Booster in the evening, since retinoids are best applied at night. You can also use them together in the evening if you prefer, as Fade Forward's gentle, acid-free formula won't compete with or irritate alongside retinoids.

Why choose Fade Forward over other dark spot serums?

Most dark spot treatments use exfoliating acids or bleaching agents that increase UV sensitivity and risk rebound pigmentation when you stop. Fade Forward works at a completely different level, restoring the dermal signalling pathway that controls melanin production rather than stripping the surface. Its active, phlorotannins from Himanthalia elongata, is a unique ingredient class found only in brown macroalgae with no synthetic equivalent, giving it a mechanism of action that standard brightening actives like niacinamide, arbutin, or kojic acid simply can't replicate.

W O W !!

"Please, never change this formula. This is hands down the most impressive serum I’ve ever tried. I’ve had stubborn acne scars for nearly a decade, and this is the first product that has actually made them vanish! It started out with a tiny sample bottle from an order from Detox Market. That tiny little sample was enough to win me over. I will carry this serum with me to my upcoming trip to Japan and Egypt—the bottle is heavy, but it’s worth lugging around across the globe it’s THAT GOOD!"

Q&A

Can I use Fade Forward when I have actinic keratosis?
Hi Josefine, Our Fade Forward Serum is suitable to use on even sensitive skin. We recommend you pair it with a product that will help to hydrate the skin to target your Actinic Keratosis. Pai Customer Experience Team
No comedogenic ?
Hi Celia, We don't test our products against a comedogenic rating therefore we do not claim if they are or not. Pai Customer Experience Team
I like the sound of this… BUT… How much hyaluronic acid is in it? HA causes my skin to become textured, scaly, and dry. For instance is there as much (or more?) HA in this as Salvation Jane? I had to stop using SJ… I’d love it if anti-aging products could find an alternative to HA…
Hi Jo, The Hyaluronic Acid is a supporting ingredient in this product so it's not a large percentage. Unfortunately, we are unable to give out the exact percentage due to this being commercially sensitive information. We do however use a low molecular weight of Hyaluronic Acid and it sits in the middle of the ingredient list. As we know, the higher the ingredient on the list, the higher percentage of these ingredients. Pai Customer Experience Team
Can you use this for dark under eyes ? Thank you x
Hi Dionne, This product works to lift pigmentation and also prevent. Unfortunately, dark circles are not the same type of pigmentation and this will not help to lighten. Due to dark circles being genetic most of the time, you can help to brighten with Vitamin C however they most likely will never be removed completely. Pai Customer Experience Team
